The poison dart frogs of the Golfo Dulce may be tiny, but they pack a fair amount of poison. The Golfo Ducle frogs are actually one of the larger varieties of the poison dart frogs, reaching 3.5cm (1.3in) at adulthood. Even though these colorful creatures are small, the frog holds enough poison to kill up to 10 people! The poison dart frog is characterized by its bright colors ranging from hues of blue to red, to green and orange.

Conservation status: Vulnerable (threatened)

The tree frog family represents over 600 species! Here in Costa Rica there are 38 species across 5 subfamilies. ​​Many tree frogs do not live in trees. but rather are terrestrial or semi-aquatic. These frogs are commonly spotted at night around houses or tucked away into leaves. Keep a close eye out for these frogs as they blend in very well to their environment.

Conservation status: Least concern

Glass frogs are characterized by their transparent skin. In some species you can even see their internal organs! The Osa Peninsula is home to 6 of the 14 different species that live in Costa Rica.​

Conservationists take interest to glass frogs because they may be good bioindicators, which are species that give us clues about the quality and health of the habitat where they live.

Conservation status: Over half of the different species of glass frogs are vulnerable or endangered

Costa Rica is home to 18 different species of toads, with four living here on the Osa Peninsula. ​

The scientific name rhinella horriblis refers to the Cane toad or Giant Toad common throughout Mesoamerica and northwestern South America. These toads can weigh up to 3lbs. ​

It is common to see these toad's hanging around the decks of the houses. Though their large size can seem intimidating, they are harmless.
