Hike to nearby waterfall and swim in the cool river water

 

Visit a gorgeous nearby waterfall and cool off in the 7ft deep swimming pool at its base. On this tour you will hike about 45 minutes through pristine rainforest where you will get the chance to see monkeys, colorful frogs, tiger heron, lizards, and much more exquisite wildlife. As the hike is completely covered by tree canopy, this is a great option to beat the heat on a hot sunny day.

 

This start of the hike is located about a 10-15 minute walk up the road. Bring water shoes, drinking water, and snacks if you desire. The hike is about 40 min to the waterfall, and you can feel free to swim in the waterfall’s pool for as long as you’d like before heading back.

 

This tour is $30 per person, if your group has 3 or more people the price drops down to $25 for each person. Kids under the age of 12 can go for free but must be accompanied by an adult.

Primary Forest Day Hike at Rio Piro Biological Station

 

Experience the untouched magic of a Primary Rainforest. As you walk through the jungle your guides will point out various kinds of local flora and fauna to be discovered. From leaf cutter ants to coatimundis, to wild turkeys and tiny squirrel monkeys, this is an amazing opportunity to immerse yourself in the tropical rainforest inhabitants.

 

This tour is $130 per person and includes entrance fees and lunch. You will meet at the Piro Biological Station which is about a 40 min drive up the road toward Carate (away from Puerto Jimenez).


Night Hike Through the Matapalo Area

 

Go for an evening hike that leaves right from your front door! Get the chance to see all of the fun and colorful wildlife that comes out at night. From colorful frogs to snakes to anteaters and wild insects, you will be able to really see the jungle in all of her nocturnal glory!

 

This walking tour leaves right from the property, it runs about 2 hours and costs $45 per person.

Rancho Piro hike with Miguel Sanchez

Rancho Piro offers a walking tour through their primary rainforest property. Cross through rivers and get the chance to see many different kinds of animals, plants, and really get to immerse yourself in a southern costa rican family farm. The length of this walking tour is about 4 hours long and it costs $15 per person.

​Rancho Piro can provide a typical Costa Rican style lunch for you including local flavors, followed by dessert. The lunch + dessert costs an additional $20 per person.

This tour is located in the area of “Piro” which is about a 30 minute drive from Naturaleza y Gracia (heading away from the direction of Puerto Jimenez).

La Perica Sloth Garden

​

This family project located in La Palma (outside of Puerto Jimenez) gives visitors the chance to see sloths in their natural habitat. This place is not quite a zoo or reserve, but rather a family farm with untouched forest life which has kept safe over the years by this family and has now become a natural refuge with dozens of sloths. Other animal sightings are likely such as monkeys, toucans, and more. The tour runs about 3 hours and finishes with a snack of local fresh fruit and homemade empanadas, and fresh lemonade. The cost of this tour is $60 per person.
